So, the new chapter is fairly long (and the fight scene is still a little dodgy) so I’m going to post it in two parts. And since it’s been such a long time since I’ve updated the story, I’m going to post a summary of all the important parts up to this point. The summary is under the cut. It should go without saying that for anyone not caught up, it’s full of spoilers. Continue reading
My writing is in fits and spurts these days. Some days I can see the end of the current chapter (and it’s so close). Other days, I can’t deal with it and so spend time working on other chapters or other story ideas. In an attempt to reign in my creative energy and organize my ideas and headcanons, I have been putting together shorter pieces, some of which I will be posting here on the blog. These include character back stories and bios. The backstories will be posted right here on the blog, and the bios will be listed on a Tumblr blog I have set up and dedicated to my various characters’ aesthetics. It sounds so corny, but I’m amazed at how all these visuals and play list things that people create actual inspire and motivate. These things can all be found under “Writing and the Creative Process” above. Note that backstories do not contain spoilers, though the Tumblr and bios do.
I hope everyone is having a lovely summer (or winter, if you are on the other side of the planet).
This year, I had hoped to have a fresh story in mind for NaNoWriMo–maybe even something original. Then I assumed that I would use November to get a jumpstart on my Dawnguard story. Instead, I’ve decided to harness the energy of NaNoWriMo for my own purposes, and put in motion a disciplined time-management plan that will get me back on track with the Disaster. The goals are simple, 1200-1600 words each day on the current chapter, editing only when the chapters are finished so they can be posted. With that in mind, reaching 50,000 words may take a bit longer. But that is good, because I hope to extend this writing schedule indefinitely.
Today, before I had to quit for more professional writing and teaching endeavors, I got 1400 words out. If I can do this again tomorrow AND incorporate all the stuff that’s already written for this chapter, I’ll be ready to post very soon.
Wish me luck! And good luck to everyone participating this year. I’m really excited about this. And determined. I mean, I have a word count meter and everything.
I know, I’m a huge liar. This chapter should not be so difficult. Most of it has been written for over two years, but for some reason I can’t focus on it. I have also fallen into the trap of writing ahead, which isn’t a terrible thing, writing is writing after all and I am so excited about some of the things coming up.
I just wish I could apply that energy to the current chapter. And let me tell you, last night I was bursting with that energy and I wrote something that was so sweet it made me sick–like when I eat a fourth donut when I should have stopped at three.
It may have involved Trygve. And a song from his childhood. And that’s all the spoilers you get for now.
